Cantel is a municipality in the department of Quetzaltenango in Guatemala. It is located 11 kilometers from the city of Quetzaltenango and has a population of around 40,000 people. Cantel is known for its beautiful landscapes, including mountains, forests, and rivers. The economy of the municipality is dominated by agriculture, specifically coffee production. There are several natural water sources in the area, including hot springs that attract tourism to the region. Cantel is also home to several Mayan ruins, including the ancient city of Zaculeu. The majority of the population speaks Spanish but there are also speakers of various indigenous languages, such as K'iche', Mam, and Q'anjob'al.
